Unity? Nah.

                                                                Rick Wiles

I admit it.  I was stunned by what I read about Rick Wiles.  At first, I figured he was just another right wing whacko with a basket of debunked conspiracies.  In other words, not someone who could be mistake for a serious political commentator.

I think there's a good chance I'm wrong.  People do take him seriously.  People like President Trump.  More on that below, but first here's a taste of his Biblical balderdash:

1.  Rick Wiles claimed President Donald Trump’s administration is trying to bring back the firing squad as a form of execution so they can shoot Democrat and media “traitors” before leaving office.

2.  After being asked on his TruNews show why the Trump administration is fast-tracking the reimplementation of execution methods like firing squad, Wiles said, “I’m not trying to be funny, but because they plan to shoot some people.”

3.  “They’re going to have a bunch of traitors, they’re going to line them up against the wall, and start shooting them, because that’s what they deserve,” he declared. “The Democrats, the news media… If the leftists, if the scientists, professors have been working secretly with the Chinese Communist Party, then line them up against a wall and shoot them.”

4.  “If these people in Washington think that they are going to get away with it, it’s not going to happen,” he declared, claiming, “The Trump supporters are going to hunt them down. It’s going to happen and this country is going to be plunged into darkness and they brought it upon themselves because they won’t back off.”

You can see for yourself.  Never say this guy is holding back.

So...as I said, he has followers, including President Trump.  The White House has granted press credentials to his goofy website TrunewsIf you think he's kidding, I think you're naive.  He has even advised Mark Meadows, Trump's current Chief of Staff, to use hollow point bullets on protesters.

The criminal charges are intriguing.  Inciting a riot.  Threatening assault.  Threatening mass murder.  Conspiracy to overthrow the government by violence.  In a perfect world, Mr. Wile could face a very long prison term, but fortunately he has the perfect defense.  He would plead insanity and probably spend his Golden Years in a mental institution.

There are a lot of crack pots out there; Wiles is neither special nor original.  But by teaming up with the President, he becomes more of a threat than a clown show.

So my naivete is showing.  I thought we would be on the verge of a long and difficult healing process.  Unity is our first name ("United" States).  After looking into Mr. Wiles plan for the future, I'm afraid we're on a long and difficult process.  Just not one to lower the temperature and heal the nation.

Unity was a comforting goal to me.  But I just can't see it happening in the current political climate.
